During the summer of 2007, we spent 6 days at Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina. The beaches were picturesque and the shelling was excellent. Diane found a lot of sand dollars and conch shells on the beach. We spent a lot of time on the beach that week! It was the hottest week of the year and the mosquitos were enormous and abundant in the campground. We learned that you had to apply bug spray before you left the beach! At the end of the week learned that the tomato fields in the area had just been turned over.... Wildlife is abundant throughout the island. We don't recommend it but we did see deer and fawns eat out of human hands. Raccoons also frequently visit campsites during the day. We fell in love with the beach, it has an unspoiled island feel and it is great for biking, shelling, swimming, and bocce ball.
