Jon and Diane spent two weeks camping in Florida during December 2008 (Christmas and New Year). First stop was the beatiful city of St. Augustine for three days (Faver Dykes State Park). The second stop was Blue Springs State Park near Orange City. Here we saw about 100 manatees in the spring and a large Alligator when we canoed on the St. Johns River. We went to DeLeon Spring to have breakfast at the Sugar Mill and we spent some time canoeing here. This was also where we spent Christmas. The next stop was Juniper Springs Recreation Area in The Ocala Forest. At Juniper Jon swam in the Spring, we canoed the 7-mile Juniper Run (a must do, very cool), and Jon meet a large friend named Teddy (a black bear). Teddy visited the campground dumpster nighly looking for a Scooby Snack. We then moved a bit further west to Ocala and the Silver River State Park. We canoed the Silver River up to the Silver Spring head water, and this was Diane's favorite part of the trip because of all the Rhesus Monkeys you see along the river. We also went to Cyrstal River to swim with the Manatees (very cold). Our final stop was Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in Jacksonville. Diane has family in Jacksonville so we had a cookout at the camper one night. Jon and Diane are both Clemson Tiger graduates so we were in town for the 2009 Gator Bowl featuring Clemson against Nebraska. What an amazing trip and beatiful weather the entire trip.
